We
all take pride of our intellect, knowledge, experience and most of the time we
brag about these. We also take pride
that we are the best creation of God. It is true that the human beings
are the most intellectual assets in this universe. Yet, how many of us are
aware of our self identities in true sense?
Can you stand in front of a mirror and make an eye to eye contact and
ask “Is it me?” If the answer is affirmative, then the next question should
come to your mind to identify yourself and exactly where this self lives in
your body? The common people, who are
mostly shackled with various constraints, will not think or like to ponder on
these types of riddles. Perhaps, they opine that it is a sheer waste of time
and energy. Barring a few, all most all
the people are deeply engrossed in their
own state of affairs neglecting these vital and philosophical aspects of life.
But this only identifies the effervescence of any crisis, which grapples us. Further
lack of understanding of this crisis, in advance invite most of the troubles. And,
once the troubles are developed, the same gets only aggravated, because we are
mostly blind and brag for our regular activities so much that we have very
little time for introspection to search for the realities. There is a self
within all of us, which is domiciled during our birth. Of course, this is an
interpretation as this fact cannot be easily demonstrated through evidence. Can we firmly say that we know where is the
seat of the self in our body and who sits there? Now, if you again look into the mirror, you
will see a body. The same body which you see everywhere and all the time. Your this
body houses a brain, which controls all your wishes, whims, fancies, and
rationalities. Through this philosophical entity or bodily structure, you feel
your life and you evaluate your experience as a personal entity. What you are
able to perform through the brain power, it is entirely depending on you. Your
assumption of understanding is recognized as “self.”
Almost
all the religious gurus, preachers and saints of higher religion realm call
this self as the seat of consciousness. This is the highest order of conceptual
perceptivity of internal environment, which describes the presence of yours in
reality. From this context, we conclude logically that all of us tend to see
ourselves as a distinct and unique individual, which is different from others
at least perception wise. This forceful
assertion further provides us the power of our self-existence. But one should not misconstrue the self as a
corporate image. If this self is not
attached to anything significant, how we feel, how we think, how we assess, how
we differentiate and sense our experience of the body? It is not so easy to ideally understand the
reality of self in us. It needs a deep
thinking. Years after years, we put our sincere efforts to verify the self, observe
and attain self- knowledge.
Self-knowledge
has been utilized for many years to understand the human energy and potential and
how the same can be effectively used to focus on the aspect of self in our
body. The unfortunate part that the evolution of the self is its internal
adjustment, adaptations to external environmental conditions, which ultimately
provides the modified human form, its functions and how the same is beneficiary
to mankind and the societies at large, is not understood and so, the evolution
of self becomes a subject of deep introspection.

The
transition from ritual, mundane and techno-commercial functions involved with
daily life with spiritual or enlightening the body and soul, which represents
the inner meaning of higher realm of life is not at all seriously thought off
for the purpose of evolution of the greater body of the human beings.
All
our future evolution is derived from the self’s self-perception of requirement
and need. One has to substantiate this need and this process is verified and
examined by self- awareness. The more
you are aware of this self-awareness in the present situation, the greater the
chance of future’s evolution will be there. For this reason, most of the highly
acclaimed spiritual and enlightened persons profess the value of understanding
and self-assessment of our own self in us and this is one of the greatest
values of any human being. Since we are
not so much adapted in this study, we seldom search and have the ability to
find out this value. Mostly, it is seen
that we are unable to differentiate between the levels in which we exist or
want to exist and outside the level of our perceptivity that animates our
physical existence and functions.
Fundamentally, it is evident that we are very much effective to lead our
lives external to our functions through the various states which are obtained
by us as various routine functions. It
is a rudimentary influence that we
must search our self not in function, but in “beings.” This great world is full of various functions
and the concepts of the self arisen from the degrees of our attachment to
material identifications, namely our reference, fame, language, culture,
likings & disliking, attitude and belief, happiness, despair, gloom,
talents and social status. A self, who
is thus emanating is not at all a self.
The self should not be linked to any material identification. It is true, the values link to the various
identifications cannot be ignored in life, but self’s self-perception cannot be
searched and established then.
To
know the self is to be the self and self-being is a very high, though related
to spirituality, which is capable to provide life to the living, life to the afterlife,
and ascertain the truth behind the mystery to understand the self in reality.
You can focus and then only assess this activity to identify self in your body,
but it is a game of deep level introspection and must be smeared with a
spiritual touch of thinking and living.
