Excessive attachment to professions deludes happiness

Now-a-days, we are recognized by our professions. We take lots of pride to give our introduction saying we are working here or we were working there in a particular cadre. We show hubris and the same gets increased if we get a professional success in a big way, means if we occupy a very coveted position. Ultimately, then it defines our identity and we slowly lose our social recognition and sometimes even face an identity crisis. The professionally oriented life  becomes the benchmark of all our activities and the amount of success we obtain from your profession dictates our lifestyle and status quo.

It is true that you have a profession and you have the power of money and you are guided by that power in your life.  To increase your value in this money market, you prefer to hone your professional skills.  Based on these acquired skills, you further prosper in your life.  In today’s mechanical life, this becomes the culture of your identification, though at times the same looks to be a bit artificial. In earlier times, this culture was practically non-existent.  Then, people used to lead their lives based on their inner nature, whereas today, people are recognized on the basis of their external profiles and requirements thereof. Because of this identity crisis, today, we are not able to get blossomed totally as per our own self.  We develop in all aspects, but our true personality is axed severely.  By growing, sometimes leaps and bounds wrapped in the success of the profession, we lose our  real identity.

You will find many people, who are highly successful in their professional fields and their responsibilities. In their workplaces, they are regarded as a role model because of their experience and knowledge.  Over a period of time, they become so experienced that they are treated as experts, who are able to solve any problem or a galore of problems without getting puzzled.  But some of these highly skillful people, who are so much attached to their professions, who have attained so much so skills in their subjects of knowledge and who are highly successful to run a business venture, are utter  failures in their personal and social lives.  They don’t have a good relationship with their parents, their children and even with their wives.  Some of these people even contemplate to divorce their wives saying the other persons are highly adamant and stubborn.  They say that those women's fraternities are simply incorrigible. The fact is that these highly successful professionals know the science of the profession very well, but they are completely blind to the chemistry of life.  You may be a master in your profession, but to know the real meaning of life and to maintain a harmony in life, you must match your chemistry with your spouse or to that matter to anybody.  It is true for every human being.  In this world, everybody is living in a culture of double meaning. Everyone plays a duality in the game of life.  As for your profession, it is understood that you will be very well equipped. Say you are a sales manager of a well reputed organization.  If someone questions you of your professional details, you will narrate continuously regarding various activities, details of the products, how you sell, how you achieve your target and many other accomplishments. You will take pride to explain the professional achievements. But if someone questions you about the science of life, you will hesitate to reply.  Even if you reply, you will be completely clueless.  This is not the case only with you; but quite common with many people.

: 2 :

Why it happens?  Because we cling to our professions, love them so much and believe that without the said identity, we are nothing.  One has to maintain not only a balance between the profession and life, but also to set priority.  While fixing your priorities, you must confess and become true to yourself.  Your professional priorities should not clash with the life priorities. If it happens, then you  lead a dual life.  In a dual life, the rate of success may be high initially, but after a certain period, rate of success will be decreased gradually and you will feel frustrated.  In this conflict of dualities, you will gain one thing, but at the same time, you will lose many things.

In professional life, we think of our fame, name, money and status quo.  We strive very hard to earn all these things and keep on our efforts more than that to retain the same.  Behind all these things, our main motto centers on money.  But you should not think in terms of money; you must focus on your development of intellectual assets.  If you nurture your habits to increase this asset, you will be able to do so. Your first priority must be to develop intellectual development and then the other aspects of life.

Lack of intellectual development is the real cause of all hardships, anxieties, grief and sorrow in our life in today’s world.  Further, when this development does not grow or grows at a lesser rate, all the negative feelings of life arise. To get rid of these negative feelings, people cling to their professions more than it is required at the cost of losing the science of life.  There are exceptions maybe the percentage is less, who both discharge their professional responsibilities sincerely without forgetting the science of life and they are really happy in this world of duality.  Otherwise, you will never know when you lose your mental peace and happiness as you are not able to surmount the pressure of your professional duties  and activities.
