Modi's affection for the holy city Varanasi



Analyzing the many characteristic traits of Modi, one can find that he is a workaholic, starting his day in the early morning, have a focus on the practice of meditation to keep his health in a good condition so as to bear the brunt of hectic travel schedule and also have a fervor to read  religious  scriptures with perspicuity.  So, Varansi the city of Gange’s confluence with this man as their MP is a befitting combination. This holy place  emerges as an  important city to increase the culture of Hinduism because it has the embankment of an ever-changing and ever-flowing sacred river for the ages. People flock here to immerse their body in the water of this sacred and  sublime river of Ganges just to get rid of their sin and collusion of mind.  They pray to God by taking Gange’s water in their hands, put forward  flowers and immerse diyas duly filled with oil and lit with wicks. This type of cultural heritage  has been followed for  many decades. By representing this constituency as their MP, Modi is equally focused to increase the growth of this city. He has already developed a plan to build up this city as a world class amenable, so that tourists, dignitaries and many   high officials  of various countries visit here and observe the religious environment of this city. This city’s main attraction consists of its calm and clean atmosphere which sensitizes the soul of the devotees, tourists and many others for religious thoughts and to savor the unforgettable panoramic view and the chanting of hymns spread though out the  embankment of the Ganges.

Varanasi  usually convenes a spiritual and cultural five days long Mahotsav, which was  last celebrated in the month of November in between 3rd to 5th , 2014. Modi is taking the full cognizance of this fact that this city must be maintained  very clean and more particularly, the holy river is to be free from any pollution. His idea to develop this city in the category of world’s renowned city and he wants to ensure its paramount importance because of its significant identification.

Ganga Mahotsav has an enormous significance as it nourishes and vitalizes the culture of Hinduism ages together.  The celebration of this Mahotsav in this holy city entices the local folks, visiting people and tourists and give them a feeling of a cultural identity and belonging. Modi’s affection and involvement with this city and his vision to make this a prosperous one and increase its beautification shows his zeal and soft corner towards this city. Basically, to show the reverence to the river Ganges, this Varansi or Ganga Mahotsav is performed every year, and also as a part of the enriched Hindu culture, this Mahotsav has a deep bonding with the city and its social and philosophical culture.

People  celebrate this Mahotsav for a period of 3 to 5 days at a stretch and remain busy during this period to perform all sacred and holy things and pujas, mainly on the banks of the Ganges. This festival, which is  illuminated with the lighting of “Diya” floated in the water of the Ganga river  in the midst of chirping sound of various devotional songs  make this cultural, religious and traditional city  of Varanasi as one of the most lively cities of India. Many great personalities gather here to perform their art and cultural performance.

All these celebrations are meaningful and purposeful to increase the cultural value with a political mileage as none other than the Prime Minister is the political representative of this city. On his recent visit on 25th December, 2014 on the birthday of one of the stalwart’s of BJP, Vajpayee, Modi took part in the cleanliness drive to mark this particular day as a “good governance day”. Modi visits this city for the second time within a span of two months and addresses the people of Varansi with a warm greeting. He has chosen some people and nominated them to expedite this mission of cleanliness drive. On this visit, many other central ministers accompanied him to increase the intensity of his mission. He also emphasizes that  now onwards December 25 will  earmark  for the  purpose of the good governance day.  Modi also desires that  in line with BJP patriarch, Vajpayee’s idealism, everyone of the government and the BJP party will definitely fulfill his dream of able government and good governance.

By getting the proximity of Modi, this city of Varansi has undoubtedly made a special niche in Indian map. The various benchmarks like cleanliness of the city, eradication of pollution of the Ganges, lessen the congestion in the city roads, increasing the facilities at  the airport will definitely  bring in many dignitaries of high level in this city to increase its prominence and reputation to the proverb “sky is not the limit.’’
