Analyzing the many characteristic traits of Modi, one can find that he is
a workaholic, starting his day in the early morning, have a focus on the
practice of meditation to keep his health in a good condition so as to bear the
brunt of hectic travel schedule and also have a fervor to read religious scriptures with perspicuity. So, Varansi the city of Gange’s confluence with
this man as their MP is a befitting combination. This holy place emerges as an important city to increase the culture of Hinduism
because it has the embankment of an ever-changing and ever-flowing sacred river
for the ages. People flock here to immerse their body in the water of this
sacred and sublime river of Ganges just
to get rid of their sin and collusion of mind. They pray to God by taking Gange’s water in
their hands, put forward flowers and
immerse diyas duly filled with oil and lit with wicks. This type of cultural heritage
has been followed for many decades. By representing this
constituency as their MP, Modi is equally focused to increase the growth of
this city. He has already developed a plan to build up this city as a world
class amenable, so that tourists, dignitaries and many high
officials of various countries visit here
and observe the religious environment of this city. This city’s main attraction
consists of its calm and clean atmosphere which sensitizes the soul of the
devotees, tourists and many others for religious thoughts and to savor the
unforgettable panoramic view and the chanting of hymns spread though out
the embankment of the Ganges.
Varanasi usually convenes a
spiritual and cultural five days long Mahotsav, which was last celebrated in the month of November in
between 3rd to 5th , 2014. Modi is taking the full
cognizance of this fact that this city must be maintained very clean and more particularly, the holy
river is to be free from any pollution. His idea to develop this city in the
category of world’s renowned city and he wants to ensure its paramount importance
because of its significant identification.
Ganga Mahotsav has an enormous significance as it nourishes and vitalizes
the culture of Hinduism ages together. The celebration of this Mahotsav in this holy
city entices the local folks, visiting people and tourists and give them a
feeling of a cultural identity and belonging. Modi’s affection and involvement with
this city and his vision to make this a prosperous one and increase its beautification
shows his zeal and soft corner towards this city. Basically, to show the
reverence to the river Ganges, this Varansi or Ganga Mahotsav is performed
every year, and also as a part of the enriched Hindu culture, this Mahotsav has
a deep bonding with the city and its social and philosophical culture.
People celebrate this Mahotsav for
a period of 3 to 5 days at a stretch and remain busy during this period to
perform all sacred and holy things and pujas, mainly on the banks of the
Ganges. This festival, which is illuminated with the lighting of “Diya” floated
in the water of the Ganga river in the
midst of chirping sound of various devotional songs make this cultural, religious and traditional
city of Varanasi as one of the most
lively cities of India. Many great personalities gather here to perform their
art and cultural performance.
All these celebrations are meaningful and purposeful to increase the
cultural value with a political mileage as none other than the Prime Minister
is the political representative of this city. On his recent visit on 25th
December, 2014 on the birthday of one of the stalwart’s of BJP, Vajpayee, Modi
took part in the cleanliness drive to mark this particular day as a “good
governance day”. Modi visits this city for the second time within a span of two
months and addresses the people of Varansi with a warm greeting. He has chosen
some people and nominated them to expedite this mission of cleanliness drive. On
this visit, many other central ministers accompanied him to increase the
intensity of his mission. He also emphasizes that now onwards December 25 will earmark for the purpose of the good governance day. Modi also desires that in line with BJP patriarch, Vajpayee’s
